I had resigned myself to the life of a dependent disabled person in need of constant help. I had to give up driving, couldnt recognise faces or read to my grand-children- the list was endless. I was impressed by the indepth, unhurried consultation during which the whole process was explained & the calm professional friendly approach of a very caring Mr Rehman. I felt part of a team all pulling together for [i]my[/i] wellbeing & I thank everyone for that. It did take six months for the readjustment process to be complete but it was worth every second of it for the exciting, unbelievable overwhelming gift of my sight being restored.

The operation was explained to me so that I knew what to expect. All my questions were answered patiently. Mr Rehman & his staff were always re-assuring, friendly, helpful & calm. All the pre and post operative tests were carried out in a professional & friendly way.

The impact in all areas of my life was quite dramatic. Golfing is now playable just as easily in the rain - no more glasses to be cleaned from raindrops or fingermarks ! Board meetings are easier in that I can see the far end of the table and the papers in front of me - no more tilting of the head to see through varifocal glasses.

Laser surgery has changed my life for the better !

Pre surgery I was totally dependent on glasses & therefore felt very vulnerable, these difficulties crystallised on a recent holiday when I broke my glasses and spent the rest of the holiday severely incapacitated... It has been transformative - after a lifetime of poor sight, nothing short of miraculous ! ... I now feel more confident and am able to contemplate activities which were previously very difficult ie scuba diving & ski-ing.

I wore contact lenses from the moment I woke to the last thing at night for 43 years. I play golf & always suffered from drying eyes and grit blowing into my eyes. I scuba dive and had to take great care not to lose my mask underwater. Now I feel free of the tyranny of contact lenses and it is a complete joy to wake up in the morning & SEE ! The day care nurses & theatre team were brilliant. They made the experience as relaxed as possible.

I wore glasses from the moment I got up in the morning. I had liked wearing contact lenses but as my eyes became more dry in my thirties I had to swtich back to glasses. I missed the freedom of contact lenses and wearing glasses whilst playing sport & excercising was a nuisance.

I had lost my confidence in going places on my own, I would panic because I couldnt see bus numbers etc. I now feel happier in myself, I feel more confident & more settled. I can now read road signs, bus numbers & train timetable screens. When I wake up in the morning I can see the clock - before [the procedure] I could see nothing without my glasses & contact lenses - I can get around even without my contact lenses. I couldnt ask for anything more from walking into the reception, to the operating room - everyone I spoke to was pleasant, professional and polite at all times.

[Before the treatment] I was not allowed to drive. This meant that a number of my committments were difficult to fulfil. Shopping was difficult.
