Risks of Clarivu™ and RLE Treatments
As Clarivu™ and RLE are identical to advanced custom cataract surgery, the risks of Clarivu™ and RLE are also the same as for cataract surgery. At the bottom of this section you can click on the link to learn about these risks in more detail.
At Bettersight we feel the following points are relevant in relation to the risks of vision correction in Clarivu™ and RLE :
In general it is reasonable to assume, that although the kinds of risks involved in cataract surgery and in Clarivu™/ RLE surgery are identical, there is some general agreement that the level of surgical risk in Clarivu™ and RLE surgery is probably a little lower than for standard cataract surgery. This may be because:
- Clarivu™ and RLE patients are usually decade or more younger than the typical cataract patient.
- As Clarivu™ and RLE treatments are elective choices its possible that such patients may be more compliant with post op care and perhaps may be especially fastidious observing post operative instructions – possibly reducing a range of post-op risks
- Our surgeons can and do advise against Clarivu™ or RLE surgery in “higher risk” eyes whereas in a cataract scenario this may not be an available option.
- It is surgically more demanding to remove a ultra hard dense cataract than it is to remove a relatively soft ageing natural lens before it gets to become a cataract.
