Epi-LASIK
This procedure provides a similar advantage profile as LASEK. It is performed by using a blunt dissecting micro-keratome in place of using alcohol assisted movement of the ‘surface skin’ the epithelium. LASER sculpting can be performed by using any of the previously mentioned ablation profiles. Following completion of Laser sculpting the epithelial flap is replaced and covered with a contact lens for two-three days just as in LASEK. It is thought that replacement of epithelial tissue that has not been in contact with alcohol may be of some benefit with respect to more rapid wound healing thus helping to allow the eye to settle down more quickly and with slightly more rapid vision recovery than using standard LASEK. This treatment can be used for most types of focusing errors in the same range as LASEK.
