Macular degeneration
Customised Cataract Surgery
LASER & Implant Vision Correction
Mr Rehman has held the post of consultant Ophthalmologist at Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Trust since 2002 after completing a Yorkshire based higher surgical training programme. His specialist interests are macular degeneration (AMD), cataract surgery and vision correction treatments with Laser (LASIK/LASEK) and with lens implantation with a special emphasis on the correction of prebsyopia.
Mr Rehman played a leading role in developing a PDT service at the Yorkshire Eye Hospital to meet the requirements of patients deemed ineligible for this treatment by NHS funding authorities. More recently, he played a pivotal role in enhancing macular degeneration services by firstly introducing Avastin® and latterly Lucentis® eye injections for wet AMD at the YEH.
In 2005 Mr Rehman became the first eye surgeon in Yorkshire to perform micro-incision cataract surgery. He performs virtually all his cataract and lens implant surgery under eye drop anaesthesia alone. He is a great advocate of giving his patients the choice of reduced spectacle dependence after cataract surgery and has an interest in bifocal / multifocal, and toric (astigmatism correcting) lens implants to help achieve this goal.
More recently he has been a key advocate of "customised cataract surgery" , a concept that demands customised lens implant selection together with the added security of LASIK/LASEK surgery fine focus adjustment, to help meet the rising visual demands of today's more discerning cataract patients.
Mr Rehman continues to develop new services for his patients - He recently became the first surgeon to perform the exciting new IOL VIP telescopic lens implant procedure at the Yorkshire Eye Hospital as well as being amongst the first in the country.
When not in the service of his patients, Mr Rehman enjoys reading, travelling and gardening, but most of all, spending as much time as possible with his family.
